Railings

Railings on ships were protective barriers or fences made of wood or metal that were installed along the edges of decks or other elevated areas. They served multiple purposes, primarily to provide safety for the crew and passengers, as well as to prevent accidental falls overboard. The main function of railings was to create a physical barrier that prevented individuals from accidentally falling or being washed overboard during rough seas or while maneuvering on the ship. Railings were typically chest-high or waist-high and featured horizontal or vertical balusters for added stability. They were strategically placed along the ship’s decks, gangways, and other areas where there was a risk of falling. Railings also provided support for individuals to steady themselves while moving around the ship in challenging conditions. They offered a sense of security and helped to maintain order and stability onboard the vessel. Wooden Model Ship Fittings Brass Railings come in a range of sizes.
