royal caroline brass decorations

hi everyone,
i have been building the royal caroline for some time now and i have recently started again. i started it in 1994, and its time it was worked on again.
i'm at the stage of putting the brass decorations on the side of the hull.
what is the best way to polish and finish the brass decorations for this ship? some of them are a little dull and due to their detailed and complex features, they are hard to polish with brasso. does anyone have any suggestions?
also, has anyone had experiance with clear laquer on the brass to hold their shine? what is the best one to use?
